Obituary Alphonso D. Carter (“AKA Fen”), transitioned to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 12, 2025, in his home in Utica, New York. Fen was born October 3, 1955, at Oneida County Hospital, Rome, New York to the parents of George and Reachel Carter. Fen grew up in Lee Center, NY and attended West Leyden Elementary in West Leyden, NY and Adirondack High School, Boonville, NY. He was a quiet and model student. He was a member of Adirondack Central High School Baseball team where he led the team to the State Championship. He attended Mohawk Valley Community College and various trade schools. He was an honorary member of The Buffalo Soldier Bike Club. He also was a member of the Prince Hall Mason, Military Lodge 112. As a devote Christian and believer, he attended New Hope Baptist Church and United Methodist Church. His work career included Rome Cable and Indium Corporations. Fen loved his family, and his nieces and nephews held a special loving place in his heart. His reflections and stories about them were always uplifting and he was so proud of them. Fen’s conversations were always meaningful, and he always had a point of wisdom to express (usually a point or memory from what Daddy had told him.) Fen preceded in death by parents, George and Reachel Carter, brothers James, Eugene, Earl, and Alonzo Carter. Survivors includes brothers, George Jr, (Inez) Fowlstown, GA; Willie B. Rome, NY; Nolan, Utica, NY; George III, (Gwendolyn), Junction City, KS; Odell, Leavenworth KS; sisters, Wynee Lee (Roscoe Cannon Sr.*) Bainbridge GA; Dorothy, (George Smith) Bainbridge Ga; Willie Faye (Jimmy Simmons*) Robbins GA; Annie Bell (Rocco Clark*), Lee Center, NY; Georgia (Larry Johnson) Riverview FL; Hildegarde (Dennis Stewart) White Plains, MD; Life-time Friend, Jesse Patterson, Utica, NY, and special friend, Gail Jones, and a host of Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 12 P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. The family will greet guests from 11 A.M. to 12 P.M. prior to the service. Interment will take place in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Stokes.
