Sandra L. Mumford

   Sandra L. Mumford, 73, of Rome, passed away peacefully at her home on December 15, 2022, with her family at her side. She was born on June 23, 1949, in Oneida, N.Y., a daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy Chilson Holmes. Sandra was a graduate of Camden High School, Class of 1967.  Sandra was formerly united in marriage to Frank Sicilia, together they had a daughter, Crystal Sicilia. Sandra was employed by D’Arcangelo & Co.  for 30 years, prior to her retirement. Being retired allowed Sandra to spend time with her grandson Jeremy providing family day care, while his mother worked. This allowed Sandra and Jeremy to develop a special bond which they will cherish forever. On July 2, 1988, Sandra was united in marriage to James J. Mumford in a ceremony which took place in Rome. Sandra was a member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church of Rome, her family will always remember her as the caretaker of the family, always taking care of her children, grandchildren and siblings.

   She is survived by her loving husband and caregiver, James J. Mumford; cherished children, Crystal Sicilia, Rome, Amanda ( Leonard Parkin) Mumford, New Jersey, Erin and Nick Eagan, Rome, James “Jamie” and Erica Mumford, PA; three sisters, Patricia (Ron) Boncella, Blossvale, Bonnie (Bo) Shapley, Blossvale, Virginia Flisram, Camden; two brothers, William “Billy’ (Sharon) Holmes, Blossvale, Randy and (Terry) Holmes, Camden; two sisters-in-law, Milo Holmes and Patty Holmes ; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Chloe, Olivia, Peytan, Cameron, Connor, Maddox and Bode; special friends, Mary Scott Squires and Lisa Brazie. Sandra was predeceased by three brothers, Ralph, Leland and Ernest Holmes; along with a brother-in-law, Ed Flisram.

   Memorial contributions in Sandra’s name may be made to the Rome Rescue Mission 413 E Dominick St, Rome, NY 13440.

   A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at 10 A.M. at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church of Rome. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, from 4-7 P.M.  at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery.
